001 — Why keep writing?

From Minimal Musings, sharing on design systems —

Inspired by Dr. Sönke Ahrens, I have rethought the relationship between writing and understanding. I used to write essays reluctantly in school. Sometimes it’s because of the topics, other times it’s about self-management. The tendency of running behind deadlines didn’t bring such good memory about writing to me.

After reading Dr. Ahrens’ book, How to Take Smart Notes, I paid more attention to my writing/note-taking process and tried to make writing as less taxing as I can. At least for now, the process from writing to thinking to understanding, and again to writing, is like a reinforcing feedback loop that leads me to a better learning journey.

Starting from March 2022, I aim to reflect on my learnings in this series, Minimal Musings, and turn them into bite-sized takeaways. To give just some subject examples: design system, user experience design, self-improvement, productivity. I hope to see my growth in this publication as I collect and curate my pieces of small reflections and connect them.

In each article, you can expect to see three sections:

  1. Some musings that you may find relatable
  2. One great moment with a tool
  3. One song that I hope to make your day

Let’s see how things go and you can always find all musings in this list.
